Report: 76ers close to acquiring Marquis Teague from Nets

The Philadelphia 76ers are in talks with the Brooklyn Nets to acquire point guard Marquis Teague, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reports.

Nets beat writer Tim Bontemps of the New York Post later confirmed the trade talks, adding the deal is close to being completed.

According to Wojnarowski, the Nets wouldn't receive anything of significance in return for Teague, which means the move would simply be a way for the Nets to open up a roster spot and shed some salary.

Teague, the 29th overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft, is on a fully guaranteed rookie-scale contract worth just over $1.1 million this season, with a $2 million team option for 2015-16.

Philadelphia would be the third stop in three NBA seasons for Teague, who was drafted by the Chicago Bulls and was traded to the Nets midway through the 2013-14 campaign. For his career, he's averaged just 2.3 points and 1.4 assists in 9.5 minutes per game.

Teague is also just 21 years old, and he was once the highest-rated point guard in his high-school class. The Sixers would be taking a no-risk flier on him, with a chance to give him some serious run - on what's basically a D-League roster - to see if he might yet develop into an everyday NBA contributor.
