Austin Rivers, who has played alongside Jimmer Fredette this preseason, now appears to be competing with him after coach Monty Williams said, "I want to have Tyreke handling the ball more and Austin or Jimmer in a scoring role," the Times-Picayune reports

Rivers, who has played alongside Jimmer Fredette this preseason, now appears to be competing with him after coach Monty Williams said, "I want to have Tyreke handling the ball more and Austin or Jimmer in a scoring role," the Times-Picayune reports.

Analysis:

Williams' quote reveals he wants Evans to be a guard in the second unit, which leaves room for only one of Rivers or Fredette. Williams also said Evans and one of the guards would play with "John (Salmons) or whoever else playing that backup three spot." Although Rivers has played strong defense and distributed better than Fredette, the former BYU star offers the perimeter shooting the Pelicans need after the departure of Anthony Morrow. Minutes for Rivers and Fredette may be fluid all season.
