Kevin Love on Team USA: 'I hope I have another chance in 2016'

Jerry Colangelo said Kevin Love was practically in tears when he decided to pull out of Team USA's FIBA World Cup team this summer. Now Love is setting his sights on his next opportunity to represent his country.

“Playing for my country has done a lot of things for my career,” Love said last week, according to the Akron Beach Journal's Jason Lloyd. “Wearing USA across my chest was a great way to feel patriotic. I hope I have another chance in 2016 to be here.”

Given that he's an All-NBA talent that will still be just 27 when the 2016 Olympic Games roll around, Love should be a virtual lock for the team, barring injury.

He pulled out of the American World Cup team due to the uncertainty surrounding his status with the Timberwolves, who eventually traded him to the Cavaliers in August.

Fellow Cavaliers All-Stars LeBron James and Kyrie Irving could be in Rio in 2016.

James essentially has a spot if he wants it, but hasn't made a decision on whether to play in the Olympics again. “I got two years,” James said. “I got a long time.”

Irving took home MVP honors at the World Cup in Spain this summer.
