Michael Carter-Williams: (Shoulder) "A Ways Away" From Full-Contact Basketball

Carter-Williams (shoulder) said Monday that the original diagnosis was that he'd miss six-to-nine months, meaning the injury was more serious than typical labrum surgery, The Intelligencer's Tom Moore reports.

Analysis:

He has missed five months and a week since the May 6 operation, and has yet to scrimmage, and while Carter-Williams says he's "plenty ahead of schedule," coach Brett Brown said his starting point guard is "a ways away" from full-contact basketball. The one thing that is clear is that the two-to-four month timetable that was originally reported is bogus, and owners should now operate under the knowledge that MCW could be out for three more weeks, or, possibly longer. Carter-Williams said that if it was up to him he would already be out there, and he's just following doctor's orders, but given the fact that the Sixers clearly don't plan on competing this season, they may opt to be overly cautious with the franchise point guard. Tony Wroten will be the primary benefactor as long as Carter-Williams is out.
