Kobe calls his performance 's---' after 41-point loss

Richard Mackson / USA Today Sports

It's just the preseason.

It's also a 41-point loss that saw the Los Angeles Lakers fail to defend, shoot 36.6 percent from the floor, turn the ball over 20 times, and go without a single 3-point field goal.

It was, in a word, well ... let's hear it from Kobe Bryant:

Bryant's snappy summation is accurate. The Lakers were brutal, getting run off the neutral Ontario, Calif., floor by the Golden State Warriors and performing poorly to a man, save for maybe Robert Sacre and Wayne Ellington. Nobody came out of this one looking good.

Bryant shot 3-of-13 from the floor, finishing with just six points in 24 minutes. He had five assists and four steals, but also coughed the ball up four times and had his team outscored by 39 points while he was on the floor. This also happened:

Bryant is trying to remain patient, taking on more of a mentoring role than the no-nonsense, lead-by-example, perform-or-get-out-of-my-damn-way method he's employed in the past. As he explained to ESPN:

My style is a little different with his group. It’s a little more nurturing. They’re so much younger, so it’s a little different. The important thing with this group is learning how to think the game all the way through, which is different than on teams that we have had in the past. We had a lot of veteran guys who had been around. So my teaching style is different.

It will be interesting to see how long Bryant's patience lasts if the Lakers play like this in the regular season. For now, they've got a few days off and then five more tune-ups to find their footing.
