Ellis will miss the next two games with a sprained left knee, which he suffered in Thursday's practice, NBA.com's Earl K. Sneed reports.

Analysis:

While this isn't ideal, it doesn't sound like his status for the start of the regular season is in jeopardy. The Mavs play Friday and then Sunday, and don't play again until Oct. 17, which is the soonest we could expect Ellis to be back on the court. Ellis has not missed a regular season game since the 2011-12 season, and has developed a reputation as one of the more durable players in the NBA.
