LeBron James on Cleveland fans: 'Even when I was gone, they was great'

Ken Blaze / USA TODAY Sports

LeBron James stepped onto the court in Cleveland as a member of the Cavaliers for the first time in four years. In his first scrimmage with his new (old) team, he received a very warm welcome.

"It was a great reaction," James told ESPN. "The fans are great. They've always been great, and even when I was gone, they was great."

Also making his debut at Wednesday's scrimmage was offseason acquisition Kevin Love. "Since I've been introduced to Cleveland, I've been told the fans are great, and tonight was no exception," Love said.

The fans brought "Welcome Home" signs and lined up for hours to get into a preseason scrimmage.

"I'm not surprised at all at how he's been received," coach David Blatt said of James.
