Fournier appears to have caught the eye of teammate Nikola Vucevic, John Denton of OrlandoMagic.com reports. Vucevic said "I didn't know [Fournier] could handle like that. He's a creative guy who can make the defense commit and make the right play. He's a good player, he has a good basketball IQ and I've been impressed with him."
Analysis:
Fournier spent last season slightly misused under coach Brian Shaw's watch in Denver. The 21-year-old Frenchman spent the year primarily spotting up from downtown. Not only have Vucevic and Fournier been forming a cohesive bond in the pick-and-roll, but both have also grown fast friends, choosing to communicate in French. With Vucevic a near lock to start at center this season, Fournier may be a darkhorse as an Opening Night starting guard. At the very least, should Elfrid Payton garner the starting nod, Fournier could compete for first man off the bench.
