Wizards sign Rasual Butler to non-guaranteed contract

Steve Mitchell / USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Wizards signed free-agent swingman Rasual Butler to a non-guaranteed contract Monday, according to RealGM.

Butler's agent confirmed the signing, according to the report.

The Wizards have one roster spot available outside of their guaranteed contract players, just as the Pacers did when Butler joined Indiana for training camp last year.

Butler earned a roster spot with the Pacers in 2013-14 despite being out of the league the season prior. The 35-year-old appeared in 50 games for the Pacers last season, averaging 2.7 points in 7.6 minutes per game.

Butler, who converted nearly 42 percent of his three-point attempts last year and is a career 36 percent three-point shooter, also appeared in 11 of Indiana's 19 postseason games.

Butler isn't going to be an impact player, but if the Wizards are looking for a respectable veteran who can log spot minutes here and there and knock down the odd three, he might have a shot at making the team.

The 11-year NBA veteran has spent time with the Pacers, Toronto Raptors, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Clippers, New Orleans Pelicans and Miami Heat since being selected 54th by Miami in the 2002 draft.
