Cavs haven't given up on signing Ray Allen

Ray Allen still hasn't made a decision on whether he'll return to the court for a 19th NBA season, and teams like the Washington Wizards, Chicago Bulls, San Antonio Spurs and Los Angeles Clippers have all been linked to the 39-year-old at one time or another.

The Cleveland Cavaliers, however, haven't given up their pursuit.

“Until he signs, that’s going to be a target for everybody,” Cavs general manager David Griffin told The Morning Journal & The News-Herald. “Ray is someone who fits us as a shooter. His championship pedigree fits us at a really high level. With James (Jones), Mike (Miller) and LeBron here, I think he’d feel comfortable with our group. 

"At the same time, it’s possible he’s not sure he wants to keep playing. He’s in no hurry to make a decision. We’ll play that out as far as we can.”

With training camps set to open in a week, and teams having to make decisions on roster spots, everyone would obviously prefer Allen make up his mind sooner rather than later. But when you're the NBA's all-time three-point king, and the league's 21st all-time leading scorer, teams are going to wait for you regardless, and Allen surely knows that.

Allen's 37.5 three-point percentage last season was his lowest mark in four years and fell short of his career average of 40 percent. But he also shot 3s at a nearly 42-percent clip in 2012-13, and remains more than capable of being one of the game's best sharpshooters off the bench.
