Steph Curry on Klay Thompson as best 2-way SG: 'I'd put him up against anybody'

Kyle Terada / USA Today Sports

Klay Thompson's agent and father have a pretty high-profile name backing up their claims that Thompson is the league's best two-way shooting guard.

"I'd put him up against anybody," Golden State Warriors teammate Steph Curry said on Friday.

Of course, what else is Curry going to say about his Splash Brother? Curry has vocally supported Thompson all offseason amid rumors the latter would be traded, and made it clear he loves playing with Thompson, calling them the league's best NBA Jam team

The organization probably wants to make sure Thompson is feeling the love following the trade rumors, but they may not want their star player boosting Thompson's value as they try to negotiate a contract extension with him. Curry even went so far as to lay out a pretty strong case for his pal after an impressive showing with Team USA at the FIBA World Cup:

He killed it. He had a great summer. ... He definitely took his game to another level.
(...)
I think he does what he does every single night. You saw what he did this summer, where he's taken his game these past three years. You can do whatever kind of ranking, scale or whatever. He's proven that it's not just talk, that he's definitely impactful on both ends of the floor and knows how to play the game, and we're lucky to have him.

As examined in the story below, the idea that Thompson is the league's best two-way shooting guard produced some eye-rolling and extensive semantic gymnastics. He's good, and there's upside remaining, but he won't be worth the maximum extension he's seeking.
