Report: Michael Beasley working out for Spurs

If there's one team that can take a player full of wasted potential and make something useful of him on an NBA court, it is without doubt the defending champion San Antonio Spurs.

In that sense, perhaps after another disappointing season - this time with the Miami Heat - the Spurs make the most sense for Michael Beasley.

Citing league sources, Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reports Beasley has been working out for the Spurs at the team's practice facility this week.

The 25-year-old averaged 7.9 points and 3.1 rebounds on a career-high 49 percent shooting in just 15 minutes per game last season, but defensive struggles and reported maturity issues saw him fall out of Erik Spoelstra's rotation as the year wore on.

Beasley appeared in 55 games for the Heat in 2013-14 and logged just 23 total playoff minutes during Miami's run to a fourth straight Eastern Conference title.

The Lakers were among a number of teams reportedly interested in the former No. 2 overall pick earlier this summer.

Defense and maturity aside, Beasley is still a young offensive talent a few years removed from averaging more than 19 points per game for the Timberwolves. He can score from anywhere on the court and could even carve out a role as a stretch-four somewhere given his size and (albeit inconsistent) three-point ability.

If the Spurs decide to take a chance on "Super Cool Beas" and Gregg Popovich can keep the young forward in line, he could be yet another offensive weapon in San Antonio's already impressive arsenal.
