Report: Wolves reach agreement with 2nd round pick Robinson III on guaranteed deal

The Big Dog is ready to eat.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have signed second round pick Glenn Robinson III to a guaranteed contract, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.

The No. 40 overall pick in June's draft, Robinson adds yet another exciting young wing to the Timberwolves suddenly stocked prospect cupboard. Big Dog No. 2 will fight for reserve playing time behind the likes of Andrew Wiggins and Zach LaVine, looking to edge out veterans Corey Brewer and Chase Budinger for minutes.

Perhaps most notable in Robinson III getting a guaranteed deal is that the Timberwolves now have 16 fully guaranteed contracts on their roster. At least one player will need to be waived or traded by the time the season opens, and that puts the Minnesota tenure of J.J. Barea in question. If the Wolves don't want to eat his $4.52 million salary, however, it's possible a name like Ronny Turiaf – on the final year of his contract at just $1.5 million  could be shipped out for a future second round pick.

With Robinson, the Wolves get another talented athlete, albeit one lacking a consistent jumper in this case. Blessed with elite athleticism and a high basketball IQ, the potential combo-forward (he'll need to add size before that designation is a reality) could wind up a steal at No. 40 if he can add effective floor spacing to his repertoire.
