Heat sign undrafted forward Khem Birch

Kelley L Cox / USA TODAY Sports

The Heat announced on Sunday that they have signed undrafted Canadian forward Khem Birch.

The 21-year-old played for the Wizards' Summer League team in Las Vegas after not hearing his name called on draft night.

Birch has a limited offensive game and, with 17 players now on their roster, has likely far from assured a spot on the Heat, but the UNLV product can provide excellent rebounding and shot-blocking at any level.

Birch, who measured 6-foot-7.5, 209 pounds at the NBA Draft combine, averaged 11.5 points, 10.2 rebounds, 3.8 blocks and 1.2 assists for UNLV last season. He played his freshman year at Pittsburgh before transferring to UNLV for his sophomore and junior seasons.
