Korver: Deng doesn't think Ferry, Hawks are racist

Dale Zanine / USA TODAY Sports

After a tumultuous week that saw their owner announce he will sell the team and their General Manager take an indefinite leave of absence in the wake of racially insensitive comments made by both, it's obvious that the reputation of the Atlanta Hawks has been badly damaged.

With Luol Deng finding himself at the center of the Hawks scandal thanks to an offensive scouting report read aloud by Ferry, you might think the Sudanese-born forward harbors ill-will towards the team. But that's not in Deng's character, as former Bulls teammate and current Hawk Kyle Korver told The Atlanta-Journal Constitution:

Q. You were teammates with Luol Deng. Would you care to comment about what was said about him? Have you reached out to him?

A. Yeah we did speak. Luol is such a good guy. And he’s been through so much in life that I don’t really think this has really even phased him. He told me that he didn’t think that Danny or anyone with the Hawks was racist. He said he was shocked when he heard what was said, but that sometimes things just slip out. It was pretty amazing, really. He just wants everything to move on. He wants to get back to basketball.

Deng's reputation and grace only makes the unfortunate comments about him, which can reportedly be traced back to the Cavaliers, all the more puzzling.
