Clippers re-sign Hedo Turkoglu

The Los Angeles Clippers officially announced the re-signing of veteran forward Hedo Turkoglu on Friday.

The move had been expected for several weeks and brings the Clippers' roster to 14 players. While the team did not disclose terms, it is expected Turkoglu's deal is for one year at the $1.4-million veteran minimum.

"We are happy to welcome Hedo back to the Clippers," president and head coach Doc Rivers said in the team's release. "Hedo is a versatile, veteran presence who contributed to the championship culture we are building in Los Angeles."

Turkoglu may be a versatile veteran, but if the last two seasons are any indication, his utility as a functional rotation piece are behind him. The 6-foot-10 native of Turkey averaged just three points and 2.3 rebounds in 10.3 minutes over 38 games for the Clippers last year, shooting a woeful 38.5 percent from the floor, but hitting a career-best 44 percent of threes.

From 2004 to 2009, Turkoglu was one of the better point forwards in basketball, averaging 15.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists for the Orlando Magic. That earned him a five-year, $54-million contract with the Toronto Raptors, but he lasted just a season before being shipped to the Phoenix Suns, and then back to the Magic 25 games after that.

Turkoglu provides Rivers with a floor-spacer who can also act as a secondary ballhandler. That's a useful player to have on the bench if the 35-year-old can bring a little more to the table than he did last season.
