Cavaliers initiate monthly lottery for single game ticket sales

Andrew Weber / USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Cavaliers have seen a dramatic increase in demand for tickets this season. So much so that they've established a lottery in hopes of allowing fans the best opportunity to get their hands on single game tickets.

“The excitement for the upcoming Cavs season is off the charts and we can’t wait to get started,” Cavaliers CEO Len Komoroski said via the team's website. “It’s a fact that the high demand for tickets far exceeds the supply. We were committed to find a way to strategically help manage a ticket buying process that would protect the integrity of the purchase for our true fans, and we believe a timed monthly lottery will help ensure that is the case.”

Those who wish to purchase tickets through the lottery will have to register every month that they wish to be eligible. The Cavaliers will randomly select winners and notify them that they have the ability to purchase tickets for an upcoming game.

The demand for tickets this upcoming season is in stark contrast to last, where the Cavaliers ranked 16th in the league in attendance with an average of 17,329 fans per game at Quicken Loans Arena.

Tickets for Cleveland's home opener against the New York Knicks are starting at $798.75 on secondary ticket market website StubHub.
