The San Antonio Spurs, as is their wont, are looking at an international player to potentially fill their roster.

Gustavo Ayon has suited up for four teams in his three seasons in the NBA. Last season, Ayon appeared in 26 games for the Atlanta Hawks and averaged 4.3 points and 4.8 rebounds in 16.5 minutes per game.

The Mexican-born center projects to be a big body at the center position, with limited versatility beyond general big-bodied skills like rebounding and putbacks.

The Spurs have plenty of depth in their frontcourt with Tim Duncan, Jeff Ayres, Tiago Splitter, Matt Bonner and Boris Diaw expected to shoulder the bulk of minutes. However, the remaining big from last year's championship roster - Aron Baynes - remains a free-agent.

There's not too much difference between Baynes and Ayon. Baynes is a year younger and averaged three points and 2.7 rebounds per game last season. The Spurs' preference in Baynes is likely rooted in a preference for continuity.
