Brook Lopez: 'I'm at my playing weight'

Cutting weight is so hot right now.

Continuing a trend set by LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony this offseason, Brooklyn Nets center Brook Lopez is also shedding weight, trimming back to 275 pounds from a career-high 290 pounds last season.

"I'm at my playing weight," Lopez told the New York Daily News. "I'm back at the weight that is normal for me...I'm definitely more comfortable but I think that just comes with being more active again."

Last season, Lopez's campaign was cut short with a foot injury, the same one he suffered two years prior. Although Lopez said that the added muscle didn't lead him to break his foot, playing at a lighter weight should only figure to help prevent future injuries.

Lopez is expected to anchor the revamped Nets next season. He averaged 20.7 points and six rebounds per game while shooting 56.3 percent from the field last season before suffering his foot injury. With two members of the Nets' starting five in Shaun Livingston and Paul Pierce gone, the onus is on Lopez to function as the Nets' first option on offense.
