NBA GM: 'No reason to give up significant assets' to land Bledsoe, Monroe

The trade market for restricted free agents Eric Bledsoe and Greg Monroe may not be as robust as the Phoenix Suns and Detroit Pistons had hoped.

Bledsoe, who hasn't spoken to the Suns in four months, is said to be looking for a max deal, while the team is reportedly exploring trade options should they fail to get their point guard (and second-leading scorer) to add his signature to a long-term contract.

Monroe, for his part, will reportedly accept the Pistons qualifying offer in order to become an unrestricted free agent following the season.

With Bledsoe and Monroe seemingly destined to hit unrestricted free agency, an anonymous NBA GM told The Sporting News that there is "no reason" for teams to give up assets in order to acquire them.

“I think any one of us would be wary of getting involved in a trade for either player,” the GM said. “Their teams overvalue them in terms of making trades, they don’t want to give them away for nothing. There’s no reason to give up significant assets for players who probably will be available next summer. That doesn't mean a deal can’t get done, but it is complicated.”

As we march closer to the beginning of the NBA season, the Suns and Pistons may face some tough decisions if they want to get any value out of their respective restricted free agents.
