Report: Toney Douglas headed to China

China continues to emerge as a viable option for NBA players short on offers stateside, with Toney Douglas reportedly the latest to make the move.

Players like Wilson Chandler and Tracy McGrady have used time in China as a sort of holding ground before coming back to the NBA, while others like Gilbert Arenas have used it as a final cash-in. More recently, potential No. 1 pick Emmanuel Mudiay decided to skip NCAA ball to get paid in China, and Metta World Peace became The Pandas Friend.

While Douglas's new team is unclear - it's likely to be the Shanghai Sharks or Sichuan Blue Whales - the move makes sense. After five up-and-down NBA seasons, he may have been facing a situation where he couldn't land a guaranteed deal for the coming year. China allows him to stack paper in the interim, and the Chinese season ends early enough that he could conceivably make a late-season NBA cameo.

Drafted 29th overall in 2009 by the Los Angeles Lakers, Douglas was quickly shipped to the New York Knicks, where he lasted nearly three seasons. From there, he landed in Houston, Sacramento, Golden State and Miami, totaling 297 games over five seasons.

Most recently, Douglas made minor playoff cameos for the Miami Heat, playing 29 minutes during their trip to the NBA Finals. The 28-year-old point guard has career averages of 7.8 points and 2.2 assists in 19.1 minutes with a 35.3 percent mark from long range.
