Jameer Nelson on decision to leave Magic: 'I don't want to sit back and develop anymore'

Former Orlando Magic point guard Jameer Nelson signed with the Dallas Mavericks this offseason, partly because of differences between the two franchises, but also due to familiarity.

Nelson, the last remaining member of the Magic's run of six straight postseason appearances, ended his 10-year marriage with the Magic when he found comfort in a team that reminded him of past glory.

"The makeup of the team and the organization it’s similar to what we had in Orlando when we were winning. And I wanted to get back to that," Nelson said in an interview with Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel.

"I've dealt with the process of rebuilding, and it’s tough. I want to win. I don’t want to sit back and develop anymore."

Nelson is bolting a re-tooling franchise to join a veteran team also calling on better days. The Mavericks brought back the defensive anchor of their 2011 championship team, center Tyson Chandler, during a busy offseason.
