Nash confirmed Monday that the 2014-15 season will be his last in the NBA, Mark Medina of the Los Angeles Daily News reports. "I think this is my last season," Nash said. "But I still love to play, practice and work on my game. I'm going to spend hopefully many many years living this life without basketball. It'll be nice to play one more year."

Analysis:

The 40-year-old is nearing the end of the line, as he's missed chunks of the last two seasons with recurring back and leg issues. He appeared in only 50 games in 2012-13 and sat out all but 15 contests last season. While he projects as the Lakers' starting point guard next season, the chances he remains healthy for an extended period of time are slim, which should allow recently acquired Jeremy Lin to see plenty of minutes. The Lakers could still waive Nash and exercise the stretch provision, allowing them to stretch his cap number across the next three seasons, though they're unlikely to do so, as parsing out the salary could jeopardize potential cap room in future offseasons.
