Five years after being selected 23rd overall by the franchise, Omri Casspi is reportedly returning to the Sacramento Kings.

Before he cleared waivers, the Kings were expected to make a waiver claim on Casspi. But by instead acquiring him via free agency, Sacramento will benefit as it means the franchise should be able to hold on to Quincy Acy without going into luxury tax.

Casspi can sign a deal that counts for only $915,243 of the Kings' cap, whereas a waiver claim would have exceeded the $976,295 that lies between the franchise and the tax line.

During his first two seasons in Sacramento, Casspi averaged 9.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.1 assists over 24.4 minutes per game.
