Reversing the very first move Phil Jackson made as president of basketball operations, the New York Knicks have released veteran guard Shannon Brown.

Brown had a fully unguaranteed $1.3 million contract for the 2014-15 season that would have become guaranteed on Aug. 1, per Sham Sports, and so the team is doing a bit of roster cleaning before adding the final pieces to their team for next season.

The Knicks grabbed Brown after he had a failed 10-game stint with the San Antonio Spurs, playing him in 19 contests down the stretch. Between his two stops, the 28-year-old Brown averaged 2.2 points in 8.7 minutes and shot just 36.4 percent.

A decent bench scorer for the Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns as recently as 2012-13, Brown will surely receive a training camp invite from some team looking for veteran guard depth. Whether he still has NBA game, and whether his two-year peak as a 35.5 percent 3-point shooter from 2010-2012 can return, is unclear.
