The Chicago Bulls may have whiffed on prized free agent Carmelo Anthony, but they've managed to salvage their offseason, reeling in Pau Gasol, bringing international star Nikola Mirotic over from Europe, and arguably adding by subtracting in amnestying the declining, defensively-challenged Carlos Boozer.

The Bulls are now looking to add backcourt depth, after D.J. Augustin, a midseason acquisition and surprise success story last season, signed with the Detroit Pistons. After re-signing franchise mainstay Kirk Hinrich this week, the Bulls are now reportedly targeting Aaron Brooks, another diminutive, shoot-first point guard in the mold of Augustin (and Nate Robinson before him), which the Bulls and head coach Tom Thibodeau have wrung such good production out of over the past couple seasons.

On top of serving as an insurance policy against any further injuries to starting point guard Derrick Rose, the addition of Brooks could conceivably help lighten Rose's load, which the Bulls will almost certainly be looking to do (despite Thibodeau's penchant for running his starters ragged), especially during the regular season.

Brooks, 29, signed with the Houston Rockets last offseason before being traded to the Denver Nuggets. He averaged 9.0 points and 3.2 assists last season in 21.6 minutes per game between the two clubs. He also had a handful of monster performances with Denver in March and April - including a 27-point, 17-assist game, and a 24-point, 15-assist game - which make you believe he still possesses the skills that earned him the NBA's Most Improved Player award in 2009-10.
