Analysis:

We've seen and reported the "off season conditioning" story every year. There's one like this for at least one player on every team. For Golden State, it's the disappointing Speights, who apparently couldn't find it in himself to show up in the best condition possible after signing a three-year deal last offseason. Now, he faces life with a new coach and he wants to make a good impression. He suggested he could be a stretch four, the type of player new coach Steve Kerr is seeking, but he's a career 23-percent shooter (14-for-61) from deep. Kerr sees Speights has a backup center, but only if he's in good shape.
