The Miami Heat officially announced the signing of power forward Josh McRoberts, releasing a statement on the team's website on Monday.

While the release did not disclose terms, the deal is reportedly a four-year, $23 million agreement, which you can read about in the post below.

McRoberts' situation could have become awkward in the aftermath of LeBron James leaving for the Cleveland Cavaliers, as he was said to have committed to the Heat with the "strong belief" that James was returning. Even the contract amount - the amount of the mid-level exception - fit with the strategy of re-signing James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade and adding to the core via cap exceptions.

But McRoberts will play in South Beach regardless, and Heat president Pat Riley is pretty excited about it:

We felt from day one that he was one of our main targets. We are delighted that this multi-faceted player will help us immensely in being the kind of team that Coach Spoelstra wants with his versatility.

The Heat have worked quickly to retain a good number of their free agents, but have also added McRoberts, Danny Granger, Luol Deng and Shabazz Napier. This isn't a team throwing in the towel without James.
