The Detroit Pistons continue to re-shape the identity of their backcourt, signing free agent point guard D.J. Augustin to a two-year contract worth $6 million, according to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.

Augustin joins Jodie Meeks (three years, $19 million), Cartier Martin and Aaron Gray (both deals are undisclosed) as the team's first additions under new president and head coach Stan Van Gundy, and it's clear that Van Gundy wants more shooting from his guards than the team had previously.

Waived by the Toronto Raptors in December after a terrible start to the year, Augustin thrived after landing with the Chicago Bulls. In 61 games there, Augustin averaged 14.9 points and five assists, hitting 41.1 percent from long range.

He may not be that effective long-term - his history suggests that some regression is due - but he's a player that's shown the ability to score in double figures either as a starter or off the bench.

Considering the Pistons were 27th in the league in 3-point makes and 29th in 3-point percentage last season, Augustin's 37.7 percent career mark from downtown is probably what enticed Detroit.
