The Toronto Raptors officially shipped forward Steve Novak to the Utah Jazz on Thursday, along with the rights to New York's 2017 second round draft pick.

Utah general manager Dennis Lindsey will send guard Diante Garrett to Toronto, where he's expected to be waived.

Novak found out on the Fourth of July holiday when he received a text from teammate Kyle Lowry.

"I didn’t have any idea that you could get traded on a national holiday,” Novak said in a phone interview with Deseret News. “I didn’t think GMs worked so hard.”
