After trading away incumbent Jose Calderon last month, the Dallas Mavericks have introduced stability at the point by re-signing Devin Harris.

The deal, as reported by Marc Stein and Tim MacMahon of ESPN, will span three seasons, and total $9 million, although Dwain Price of the Star-Telegram reports the deal is for three years, $12 million.

Harris, 31, is coming off pair of injury-shortened seasons, but impressed in limited minutes with the Mavericks last year. He profiles as a defensively sound guard capable of facilitating an offense. He posted per-game averages of 7.9 points and 4.5 assists last season.

With the deal, the Mavericks expend a sliver of their cap room, which may hinder their pursuit for a max-level free agent. However, with only New York Knicks cast-off Raymond Felton manning the point, the importance of adding help in Harris was paramount.
