Report: Marcus Camby hopes to play in the NBA again this season

More than a year removed from his last game action and coming off an entire season spent rehabbing an injury, 40-year-old Marcus Camby wants another go-'round in the NBA.

Last season was a busy one for Camby, who was traded from the New York Knicks to the Toronto Raptors, subsequently waived, then signed by the Houston Rockets but waived when it was determined he wouldn't be able to return to the court at any point.

Camby had surgery in October to repair a torn plantar fascia in his left foot but the rehabilitation time was simply too long for him to get back in game shape. Now, 14 months since he last played, he'll try to convince teams to give him a shot.

And there are worse guys you could give a shot to, we suppose. When he last played, Camby averaged just 1.8 points and 3.3 rebounds, but he's a 6-foot-11 rim protecting presence and, by many accounts, a strong veteran presence. As a 10-plus year veteran, he would command a $1.45 million salary, but only $915,243 of that would count for luxury tax purposes.

Over 17 NBA seasons, Camby has averaged 9.5 points, 9.8 rebounds and 2.4 blocks, leading the league in the latter four times. He is 13th in league history in blocked shots and seventh in rebound percentage.
