The Orlando Magic have released yet another veteran to allow him to find a more suitable home while saving a little bit of cash in the process.

Following the Monday release of Jameer Nelson, the Magic have followed up by cutting ties with 31-year-old forward Jason Maxiell. Maxiell was under contract for $2.5 million this coming season but it was fully non-guaranteed. Between the two moves, the Magic have turned $10.5 million in salary commitments into just $2 million.

Obviously, that leaves the Magic with a great deal of cap flexibility, though it's unclear whether they'll use all of it.

Maxiell averaged 3.2 points and 2.5 rebounds in 14.4 minutes last season but has a strong track record of tough performance at either frontcourt spot. With career averages of 5.9 points and 4.3 rebounds, he'll likely find a home as a late-rotation big on a contender in need of depth.
