Report: Nuggets meeting with Faried's agent next week, hope to ink extension

Kyle Terada / USA Today Sports

If everything goes according to plan, the "Manimal" will remain a Denver Nugget for a few seasons more.

Power forward Kenneth Faried's time in the league has been filled with mostly ups, big ups. His voracious style of play appropriately earned him the nickname "Manimal", and endeared him to fans.

But mostly is the operative word - he was considered a disappointment last season in Nuggets coach Brian Shaw's post-up heavy system. Although his statistics mirrored that of his career averages, his performance still fell short of expectation.

The reason he didn't play as well is because he's not a traditional big man. Instead of setting up shop on the mid-block with his back to the basket, Faried is most effective crashing to glass for rim runs and put-backs. It also didn't help that he's somewhat undersized, which makes him a liability at times on defense.

However, with the news of an extension in the works, signs point to Denver's continued trust in the flashy forward. Given his age (24) and his production (PER of 19.8), Faried should be in line for a multi-year deal worth nearly ten digits per season. Meanwhile, us fans are in line for more ferocious dunks.
