Spurs GM Buford: Tried to trade Tim Duncan for Wiggins or Parker
Back in 2011, R.C. Buford manufactured what at the time didn't seem like a major trade on draft night. Three years later, the No. 15 pick he acquired was the NBA Finals MVP.
On Thursday night, Buford once again tried to ensure the future of the San Antonio Spurs was healthy and in good hands...by trying to deal franchise icon Tim Duncan for the No. 1 pick.
Yeah, Wiggins and Parker were No. 1 on our board...but just didn't figure out a way to get it done.
...
Exactly. No matter how badly he [Tim Duncan] wants to play for (Philadelphia coach and former Spurs assistant) Brett Brown, we just couldn't make it work. If Philly could have gotten one, we would have traded him to Brett.
Obviously, Buford is kidding around, but it makes for one heck of a thought experiment on a quiet Friday morning.
