Report: Lakers considering uniting LeBron and Carmelo

Steve Mitchell / USA Today Sports

Kobe Bryant. Carmelo Anthony. LeBron James. One basketball between the three.

It's something of interest to the Los Angeles Lakers, according to a report from ESPN. The Lakers, who have as much as $34 million in cap room this summer, could potentially offer both James and Anthony $16 million apiece to join forces with Bryant.

In order to do so, the Lakers would need to find takers for point guard Steve Nash and the seventh overall pick, which would both clog up the ledger.

So how would a trio of James, Anthony and Bryant work? It could be argued that each player needs the ball in their hands to succeed, but hey, they're all-time talents. They would probably figure it out somehow.

Of course, devoting so much money to three superstars leaves practically nothing for the remainder of the squad. If Nash and their pick is gone, the Lakers would only have Bryant and center Robert Sacre holding down the fort. Depth will almost certainly be an issue.

Therefore, the chances of this union coming to fruition would be slim to none. But hey, it's Los Angeles and it's the Lakers. If any team has the track record for making moves like this, it's them.

...But it's still not happening.
