McRoberts (toe) has opted out of his contract and will be an unrestricted free agent, the Charlotte Observer reports.

Analysis:

McRoberts turned down his $2.7 million player option for next season and will hit the market as an unrestricted free agent. The former No. 1 overall recruit out of high school has already played for five NBA teams in his first seven seasons, but he's displayed significant improvement as an overall player in his time with Charlotte. Two seasons ago, McRoberts averaged career highs in points (9.3) and rebounds (7.2) while shooting 50.5 percent from the floor. He was productive again in 2013-14 (8.5 points, 4.8 rebounds), though struggled, at times, from the field (43.6% FG). As the 27-year-old enters his prime, he'll likely seek a multi-year deal for more than the $5.42 million he made over his two-year contract with the Hornets. Charlotte is apparently very interested in bringing McRoberts back, as owner Michael Jordan and coach Steve Clifford are big fans of his game.
