Ayon (shoulder) could miss the 2014 FIBA World Cup in August, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.

Analysis:

Ayon underwent season-ending shoulder surgery on his right shoulder in February. He is currently at Mexico's training camp and will see another doctor on Wednesday to re-assess the progress of his rehab. Ayon says he feels completely fine physically, but the shoulder is not 100 percent yet. If his shoulder is not completely healed by the World Cup, he will not play, as he believes he would be hurting the team if he tried to play. Ayon appeared in 29 games (14 starts) with the Hawks last season, averaging 4.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.0 steal, and 0.4 blocks in 16.5 minutes per game. By playing in the World Cup, Ayon would get some quality playing time for other NBA teams to look at, as he is a restricted free agent this offseason. The Hawks have to make a qualifying offer to Ayon of at least $1.875 million by June 30 before they earn the right to match any offer he signs from another team.
