Report: Amar'e Stoudemire declines early termination option, will remain with Knicks

Howard Smith / USA TODAY Sports

New York Knicks power forward Amar'e Stoudemire has declined to exercise his early termination option and will remain with the Knicks for the 2014-15 season, according to CSNNW.com.

Stoudemire will play out the final year of his five-year, $100 million contract, rather than becoming a free agent in the summer. The six-time All-Star will earn $23.4 million this upcoming season.

The move comes as no surprise as Stoudemire wouldn't have been able to sniff that kind of money on the open market. He's also been talking about the future of the Knicks as if it were already a foregone conclusion that he was returning.

He averaged 11.9 points and 4.9 rebounds in 22.6 minutes per game this past season.
