Pacers' Larry Bird: 'I like [George Hill], but you never know what's going to happen this summer'

Is change on the horizon for Indiana Pacers point guard George Hill?

Pacers president Larry Bird was incredibly candid in the Pacers' year-end locker clean-out on Monday. He reiterated his interest in retaining guard Lance Stephenson, stated his desire for center Roy Hibbert to workout with Hall of Famers in the offseason, commented on former Pacer Danny Granger's leadership role, among other things.

Bird also took the time to comment on Stephenson's backcourt partner in the starting lineup, point guard George Hill:

Hill's tenure with the Pacers has been somewhat disappointing since being acquired in a draft day trade with the San Antonio Spurs for forward Kawhi Leonard in 2011. Hill is a steady-handed guard capable of hitting open jumpshots, but his offensive shortcomings have come into focus in light of the Pacers' struggles on offense this postseason. 

Hill signed a five-year extension worth $40 million in 2012. His contract calls for him to make $8 million per year until 2017. He averaged 10.3 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game during the regular season.

As noted by Bird himself, any potential changes made by the Pacers would likely come via trade. As it currently stands, their 2014-15 payroll sits at $65.0 million, and that's before factoring any commitments made to Stephenson.
