A coach from Luol Deng's past reportedly holds the ability to determine the Sudan native's future with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Deng, a free agent who spent nearly 10 seasons with the Chicago Bulls before being traded to the Cavaliers in January, was Griffin's teammate for the 2004-05 season as well as between 2006 and 2008.

With the exception of a brief family-related hiatus in 2011, Griffin has worked as an assistant coach for the Bulls since September of 2010. He was reportedly the first of a number of candidates to be interviewed for the Cavaliers' vacant head coach position on Tuesday, indicating that the franchise have a strong interest in hiring him.
