Deron Williams: (Ankles) Surgery On Tap

Williams will have surgery performed on both of his ankles next Tuesday, May 27, the Nets' official site reports. The team's foot and ankle specialist, Dr. Martin O'Malley, stated that the point guard "will have a bone chip removed from his right ankle, and the left ankle will have an arthroscopic cleanout with removal of spurs from both the front and back of the ankle."

Analysis:

Immediately after the Nets were bumped from the playoffs last week, Williams intimated that offseason surgery was a possibility for his balky ankles. Now that surgery has been advised, he'll hope that he can avoid the nuisances that resulted in subpar play and wiped away 22 games the last two seasons, including 16 due to a swollen left ankle in the recently-completed campaign. A full recovery is expected, but no timetable exists for the completion of his rehab.
