Eric Gordon: (Knee) Rehab Going Well, May Be Moved To Bench Role

Gordon's (knee) rehab is going well, but he may get moved to a bench role next season to open the door for Tyreke Evans to be the starting shooting guard, the Times-Picayune reports.

Analysis:

Coach Monty Williams will take the offseason to consider all of his options, and while a move to the bench would typically mean a reduction in minutes and possessions available to a player, in Gordon's case, that may not be so. Gordon has been mired by injuries for most of his career, only playing in more than 62 games in a season as a rookie (78). He's also only averaged 32 minutes or less over the last two seasons. A move to the bench might be a strange blessing in disguise that could lead to Gordon having more opportunities to score and distribute playing against other team's second units. He's only played 18 games off the bench over the course of his career, and Gordon doesn't seem ready to relinquish his starting role based on some of the quotes in the Times Picayune's story. Ultimately, this only gives us something to consider for the time being, but what's most important regarding Gordon's value in fantasy is his health. He underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in April to clean out some painful issues. The surgery was considered minor, and he's expected to begin basketball activities in the next few weeks. It sounds as though Gordon should be healthy far ahead of training camp.
