Memorable NBA Mom moments

After delivering an already heartfelt MVP acceptance speech this week, Kevin Durant concluded by going for the emotional jugular - detailing his mother's sacrifice and fighting back tears to tell the world that she is "the real MVP."

With Durant's teary tribute still fresh in our minds and Mother's Day weekend upon us, let's look back on some of the most memorable mom moments in recent NBA history - good, bad and ugly.

LeBron tells his mom to sit down
One of the most memorable moments from a classic 2008 Cavs/Celtics playoff series, LeBron James' mom gets heated after Paul Pierce fouls her son, so Kevin Garnett and then LeBron himself have to cool her down:

Pam McGee steals the dunk contest spotlight
JaVale McGee's solid performance in the 2011 dunk contest was overshadowed by an awkward segment where his mom  - WNBA great Pam McGee - came out to deliver a special ball for this three-ball dunk. The best part? Dr. J steals a kiss on the lips while Mrs. McGee was greeting the judges with double-kisses on the cheek:

Pam now stars in the reality show 'Mom's Got Game' on the Oprah Winfrey Network.

Kenyon Martin's mom vs. Mark Cuban
After the Mavericks went down 3-0 to the Nuggets in the 2009 playoffs following a Carmelo Anthony three-pointer that included officials missing what was supposed to be an intentional foul, Cuban and the Mavs were understandably miffed. As Cuban walked off the court, a Mavs fan was yelling about the Nuggets being thugs, and so the billionaire owner looked at Martin's mom sitting nearby and said "that includes your son."

Cuban claimed that Martin's mom had trash-talked him after a previous Nuggets W, but Martin wasn't happy, and after the Mavericks won Game 4, he had some extremely offensive, NSFW messages borderline threats for Cuban.

Ann Iverson vs. the media
Usually decked out in an oversized or custom Iverson jersey, Ann Iverson was a staple at 76ers games during A.I.'s peak years in the early 2000's. But Mama Iverson's most memorable moment came when confronted by media about her son's legal troubles in the summer of 2002, after Allen allegedly forced his way into an apartment with a gun in search of his wife, who he had kicked out of their house earlier.

"And with that, Ann Iverson was driven away."

Mabel Marbury's mid-game hug
Many remember a nasty 2001 collision between Stephon Marbury and Nets teammate Jayson Williams as the one that ended Williams' career, but it was also the first and only NBA collision that involved a player's mom running onto the court to console her son.

The New York Daily News tells the story:

Mabel headed straight from her seat to the court. As she stepped between aisles and security guards, she kept expecting somebody to stop her. Nobody did. Embracing her son before thousands, he was streaming with sweat and more than a little perturbed. "Mom, what are you doing?" he asked her. "You can't do that."

She did it, anyway. A hug never hurt anyone. Mabel only was sorry that Williams had been hurt so badly. "Afterward, I felt like a nut," she said. "But that's my child out there. I don't care what anybody else says. Any parent would do the same."

Michelle Carter and the most notorious parking spot in Toronto
Like Iverson's mom, Vince Carter's mother was a fixture at the Air Canada Centre during peak 'Vinsanity' days, but as new management led by in-over-his-head GM Rob Babcock took over and Vince's relationship with the front office soured, one of the most memorable stories from that time was the team taking away Michelle Carter's parking spot.

Former Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment CEO Richard Peddie would later call Carter a "mama's boy" in his memoir.
