VIDEO: Jamal Crawford, Sixth Man of the Year highlight package

Los Angeles Clippers shooting guard Jamal Crawford was awarded the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year honor on Thursday, the second time J-Crossover has been named as the league's best reserve.

You can see the entire voting breakdown in the story below, and it was an incredibly close battle between Crawford and Taj Gibson of the Chicago Bulls. One reason Crawford may have gotten the nod from voters? He has the highlights to his name:

Also relevant is that the physical award shows a player shooting, not grabbing rebounds or playing defense. Sorry, Gibson.

Sadly, Crawford's hardware isn't very representative of what a sixth man actually does. Shouldn't the award show a player getting up off the bench and removing his warmups? We digress.

In any case, Crawford's 18.6 points per game were the highest for any qualified reserve this season and the highest mark for any bench player since Jason Terry averaged 19.6 for the Mavericks in 2008-09.

Crawford also now ranks fourth in NBA history with 130 20-point games off the bench and is sixth all-time in scoring average (15.6) for players who spent at least half their career coming off the bench (an admittedly rough cut-off). He's perhaps this era's premiere scoring weapon off the bench, so it's easy to look past Gibson's candidacy, even though he probably deserved this year's honor.
