Rick Carlisle believes Monta Ellis can make 'quantum leaps' with his career

Rick Carlisle is under the impression that Monta Ellis' career still hasn't peaked.

Ellis enjoyed an excellent 2013-14 season with the Dallas Mavericks, averaging 19.0 points, 5.7 assists, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game, while posting an above-average Player Efficiency Rating of 16.8 and a True Shooting Percentage of 52.7. He was also among the best players in the Mavericks' first-round series against the San Antonio Spurs.

Before coming to Dallas, Ellis had been subject to considerable criticism while playing for the Milwaukee Bucks and the Golden State Warriors. But under Carlisle and surrounded by a veteran roster, he seems to have found the best fit of his career.

It would probably work out well for Ellis if the Mavericks retain free agents Dirk Nowitzki, Shawn Marion, Vince Carter, and Devin Harris, as owner Mark Cuban has indicated they're interested in doing.
