Report: NBA rescinds Dwight Howard's technical foul from Game 4

In a first-round series where three of four contests have gone to overtime, personal fouls and technical fouls have arguably altered the outcome of certain games.

You may remember that in Game 1 of the series between the Houston Rockets and Portland Trail Blazers, Dwight Howard fouled out with 10.8 seconds left in overtime after he appeared to hold Joel Freeland. The Trail Blazers led by one at that point, and Howard would have gone to the free throw line with a chance to give the Rockets a late lead.

Instead, Freeland made one of two free throws, the Trail Blazers picked up a road win, and following the game, the NBA announced that the foul should have been called on Freeland.

Fast forward to Monday night's Game 4. Howard was assessed a mysterious technical foul in the first quarter for his reaction to being fouled by - that's right - Freeland. Damian Lillard hit the subsequent free throw and the Rockets went on to lose in overtime.

Now, believe it or not, the NBA has reportedly rescinded the foul on Howard once again.

At this point, rescinding the foul really does nothing to benefit the Rockets, who find themselves down 3-1 in the series and on the brink of a first-round elimination.
