Report: Suns, Lakers interested in Luol Deng

Half of the NBA is currently dealing with the playoffs. The other half is getting a head start on free-agency preparations.

According to a report from Sam Amico of FOX Sports, the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Lakers are showing interest in unrestricted free-agent Luol Deng, who spent time in Chicago and Cleveland this season. On the year, Deng averaged 16 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game in 63 games played.

Deng, who profiles as a defense-first winger equipped with a scoring touch, is a sensible fit for the Lakers, who also have a wealth of cap room this off-season. Deng could flank Kobe Bryant on the wing and tackle the tougher defensive assignment, which would allow the 35-year-old Bryant to conserve his energy.

As for the Suns, Deng could certainly represent an upgrade over P.J. Tucker, who is a restricted free-agent this summer. However, much of the Suns' success this season came under Tucker's watch, so the Suns may be reluctant to make any changes.
