Pistons F Greg Monroe: 'It definitely hurts after how we played' vs. 76ers

For Detroit Pistons forward Greg Monroe, losing by 25 points on Saturday to a team riding a 26-game losing skid was a tough pill to swallow.

“It’s tough. It’s really tough. It definitely hurts after how we played last night,” Monroe told the Detroit News after scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds in Saturday's loss. “To play like that two nights in a row is something I’d say I’m disappointed in. Yeah. I mean, there was no effort tonight. Absolutely no effort.”

The Pistons also lost by 32 points to the Miami Heat on Friday and have one win in their last nine contests. Detroit is 4-18 since defeating the San Antonio Spurs 109-100 on Feb. 10 - a fitting record for the lack of effort being displayed on the court.

"The message to the team is if this is the type of effort we’re going to have over the next nine (games), then we’ll have results like we did the last two nights," Pistons interim coach John Loyer said. "We didn't have that effort over the first 20 games. I told them I thought their effort in those games was tremendous."

Loyer called Saturday's effort "embarrassing" and believes this Pistons team is capable of much better.

“It’s our job as coaches and their job a players to get back to that,” Loyer said. “We’ve played some good basketball against some very good people, so we’re capable. We just haven’t shown that in two straight nights, and we have to get back to that.”
