Celtics veteran Wallace out 3-4 months following surgeries

The league's 10th-youngest team is going to be a whole lot younger down the stretch.

While the Boston Celtics have an average age of 25.6, they're really going to skew youthful now. Not only has 34-year-old Keith Bogans been excused from the team for personal reasons, but they'll also be without 32-year-old Gerald Wallace moving forward. Their two oldest players, done for the year; the youth movement marches on.

Wallace underwent arthroscopic surgeries on his left knee and left ankle on Tuesday, procedures that will keep him out for the remainder of the season. His recovery time has been set at three-to-four months, so he should be ready to go for 2014-15.

It's been a disappointing year for the 13-year veteran. Wallace is averaging his worst numbers, across the board, since 2003-04 and is stuck in a rebuilding situation. An exit strategy is unclear, too, as Wallace has two years and $20.2 million left on his contract.

But he'll have some time away to recharge, at least, and maybe this means no more outbursts directed at his teammates. Maybe.
